Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was congratulated on his success in Sunday’s presidential election by world leaders across the globe.

Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated their Turkish counterpart on his success in Sunday's elections in a phone call, according to presidential sources.

Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussein was among world leaders who congratulated Erdogan on his election victory on Sunday.

Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani also congratulated President Erdoğan on his reelection in a phone call late on Sunday.

In the first congratulations from an EU country, Hungarian Premier Victor Orban congratulated Erdoğan on his election success.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh also extended their congratulations to his Turkish counterpart in a phone call late on Sunday.

Polls showed the Turkish president enjoying a comfortable lead with the majority of ballot boxes opened.

Initial results from Turkey’s presidential elections show incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a strong lead.

With 76.7 percent of ballot boxes opened, Erdoğan is ahead with 54.7 percent of votes.
