A beggar living in İzmir’s Karşıyaka district applied to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey for his money, which was confiscated by Turkish police officers, claiming that he was not begging but selling balloons to make a living.

His money and assets had been confiscated by Turkish council workers and transferred to public property by the municipal board.

A total of 26 Turkish Republic gold quarter coins, 12 Republic gold coins, a gold bracelet and 1,633 TL ($303) were confiscated.

His request was rejected by a criminal court of peace in the Aegean city of İzmir.
