Compassion Ship, an organization of the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) aims to get medicine and food aid to Yemeni people.

The ship was prepared with help from Turkish nongovernmental organizations, including the Turkish Red Crescent, Doctors Worldwide, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Hayrat Aid.

The Turkish Red Crescent and Doctors Worldwide supplied medical needs, while other NGOs sent food items, including flour and sugar.

Mersin Governor Özdemir Çakacak said the total aid on the Compassion Ship weighs 6 tons and is worth 7 million Turkish Liras.

The ship will arrive to Aden Harbor within two weeks. It will be welcomed by the Aden governorate and the aid will be distributed by the Yemeni Red Crescent.

The Yemeni Civil War began in March 2015 between two factions claiming to constitute the Yemeni government, along with their supporters and allies.

At least 7,000 have been killed while more than 17,000 Yemenis are wounded to date due to clashes.
