Four members of the PKK terrorist organization have surrendered to Turkish security forces, according to a military statement on Thursday.

The Turkish General Staff said the terrorists had fled from PKK shelters in northern Iraq and surrendered to security forces in Silopi district of southeastern Sirnak province.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.

The statement also said Turkish land forces held 767 people when they attempted to cross Turkish-Syrian border using an illegal route.

Two people were also held for trying to enter Turkey from Iraq.

On the Turkey-Greece border, 156 people were also held for attempting to go through a border crossing illegally, the statement added.
