A shepherd in Turkey’s eastern province of Tunceli woke up on Saturday to the shocking realization that 14 of his sheep herd had died overnight in a stampede after mistaking a cat that entered their barn for a wolf.
Fourteen of Mustafa Akpolat’s sheep perished and four others were injured in the stampede that ensued the cat’s entrance into the barn, according to preliminary inspections at the site after the tragic incident.
Local veterinarians are currently treating the injured sheep, after they assessed that a cat was the cause of the trampling that resulted in the death of the majority of the frightened herd.
