Two patients died on Sunday after inhaling smoke from a fire that broke out in a private hospital in Turkey’s Gaziantep.

The fire was caused as a result of overheating in the energy storage room in the basement of the hospital, which is located in the Şehitkamil district.

Due to the smoke, 25 patients from the intensive care unit, 45 babies from the newborn unit, 10 patients from other units and five hospital staff were evacuated from the building.

Two patients from the intensive care unit died during the evacuation. The remaining patients were transferred to another hospital.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
