The Human Rights and Freedoms Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) took part in the first international Humanitarian Finance Summit held in London, where innovative models for humanitarian aid financing were discussed. The IHH, which has been active in in six continents and 123 countries around the world in humanitarian aid, set up a booth at the event to share its experiences in the field of humanitarian aid.
The inaugural summit gathered leading figures in humanitarian aid financing, non-governmental organizations, government officials, investors, and representatives of the private sector on Friday.
Organized in partnership with "AidEx" and the "Humanitarian Finance Forum," the event emphasized the need for humanitarian aid financing to move beyond traditional donation and grant models, highlighting the importance of establishing long-term sustainable financing solutions.
Discussions covered a range of topics, including outcome-based financing models, risk transfer mechanisms, and insurance-based solutions. Participants also explored the increased use of innovative models such as impact investments, social bonds, insurance products, and capital market instruments to finance humanitarian projects.
-New Financial and Innovative Models
IHH Secretary-General Durmus Aydin told Anadolu that crises, disasters, and wars are increasing, making traditional aid and grant models insufficient. "The Humanitarian Finance Summit aims to foster new financial and innovative models during this process," he said.
Aydin noted that the summit brought together public, civil society, and private sector organizations to discuss joint humanitarian finance models and new approaches.
He said: "We participated in this summit both as participants and exhibitors. Our booth is here. This is a significant event attended by experts in humanitarian finance from different countries, especially the UK."
He emphasized that the IHH also represented Türkiye at the summit.
"In a world where wars, disasters, and crises are growing day by day, we are discussing how more innovative models can be developed to solve financial crises and how more effective approaches can be created in collaboration with the public and private sectors."
Drawing attention to recent humanitarian crises in regions like Gaza and Sudan, Aydin pointed out that millions of people have been displaced. "At this summit, we are focusing on how better solutions can be provided to people suffering from these hardships through financially sustainable approaches," he added.
