The Israeli army on Tuesday destroyed two buildings of Al-Aqsa University, the oldest institution of higher learning in the Gaza Strip, according to witnesses.

“Israeli army forces moved into the west of Gaza City and shelled and destroyed two buildings on the university campus,” an eyewitness told Anadolu.

According to an Anadolu reporter, Israeli forces fired at displaced Palestinians who were taking shelter on campus.

No information was yet available about casualties.

Israel launched an air and ground offensive on the Gaza Strip following an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, so far killing at least 27,585 Palestinians and injuring 66,978 others, according to Gaza's health authorities, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.

About 85% of Gazans have been displaced by the Israeli onslaught, while all are food insecure, according to the UN. Hundreds of thousands of people are living without shelter, and less than half of aid trucks are entering the territory than before the start of the conflict.
