Axios reports that top diplomats from Arab countries will visit Washington as concerns grow over Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will visit Washington on Friday for meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other Trump administration officials, the Axios news site reported, citing two sources.
Jordan's King Abdullah II began an overseas trip Thursday for meetings with officials in the UK and US, including US President Donald Trump.
Safadi's visit comes ahead of King Abdullah's scheduled meeting with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, the report said.
Discussions are expected to focus on Jordan's concerns over Trump's plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to other countries in the region.
According to Axios, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister is also expected to visit Washington in the coming days, while Egypt's foreign minister is set to arrive on Monday.
Earlier, President Trump said at a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US would “take over” Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
He doubled down on his proposal Thursday and said no US soldiers would be needed.
The proposal has been widely condemned by world leaders.
