Missile lands outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone, no immediate threats reported
North Korea launched a "suspected ballistic missile," the Japanese prime minister's office said early Tuesday
The missile is believed to have landed outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) without posing immediate threats to Japanese territories or assets, according to public broadcaster NHK.
The Japan Coast Guard, based on information from the Ministry of Defense, announced that "the possible ballistic missile is believed to have already fallen."
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba directed authorities to collect and analyze information to keep the public promptly informed, confirm the safety of all aircraft and ships, and prepare for any unforeseen developments, according to the prime minister's office.
This marks the 13th missile incident involving North Korea this year. Last Thursday, Pyongyang confirmed the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), marking its 12th missile test of 2024.
