Over 2,200 held in Turkey for illegal border crossing

Border troops detain 2,142 people along Turkey-Syria border, another 80 at Greek border, according to Turkish military

Turkish security forces have detained 2,222 people for attempted illegal border crossing, according to the Turkish military on Monday.

Border troops on Sunday held 2,131 people as they were attempting to enter illegally into Turkey from Syria, while 11 others were held as they attempted to cross the border into Syria, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement.

Another 80 people were detained at the Greek border, the military said, adding 70 of them tried to illegally enter Greece, while the remaining 10 attempted to cross into Turkey.

The statement did not provide the nationalities of the detainees.
