Over 50 arrested in anti-narcotics operations in Turkey

Operations were carried out in Istanbul, Eskisehir, Aydin, and Zonguldak provinces

Turkish security forces have arrested 51 suspects in nationwide anti-narcotics operations, an official statement and police sources said on Monday.

In Turkey's most populous city of Istanbul, local gendarmerie units apprehended at least 24 people, including three women, during raids targeting the drug traffickers across the city, said one of the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.


In Black Sea province of Zonguldak, 22 suspects were rounded up in anti-narcotics operations, provincial police department said in a statement.


According to the statement, the suspects were arrested in nine different operations conducted over the last four days in Zonguldak. Around 58 ecstasy pills, over 73 grams of marijuana and guns were also seized in the operations, it added.


Separately, two people, known by the initials R.C. and H.Y., were detained in the northwestern province of Eskisehir. The suspects are accused of organizing drug trafficking.


In the southwestern province of Aydin, the police also rounded up three suspects for drug trafficking in Kuyulu and Kardeskoy neighborhoods.
