Turkish security forces on Monday held more than 920 undocumented migrants as they were attempting to cross the country’s borders, the military said.

The border guards arrested 743 people as they attempted to enter Turkey from the Syrian border, said the Turkish General Staff in a daily report.

In addition, 55 migrants were held when they were trying to illegally cross into Greece and 40 more were rounded up when they were attempting to enter Turkey from Greece, it added.

88 others were also held at the Turkey-Iran border.

At the border with Iraq, one person was held when he was trying to enter Turkey.

Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.
