A statue of “Tombili,” a cat who became a phenomenon with its pose sitting on a sidewalk in Istanbul's Ziverbey neighborhood, was erected in the Kadıköy district and will be inaugurated on October 4 on World Animal Day.
The statue will be inaugurated in the same place where the well-known photo was taken at 1:00 p.m. on World Animal Day 2015.
Tombili's statue was erected after an online signature campaign demanded that the Kadıköy Municipality places the sculpture.
The statue was made by sculptor Seval Şahin on the sidewalk at the location where Tombili's famous picture was captured.
Tombili used to be one of the symbols of Ziverbey neighborhood as she used to act cool on the sidewalk, spending a lot of time on the same place that the picture was taken before she died in August 2016.
