Six soldiers were injured on Wednesday when PKK terrorists blew up a barricade containing improvised explosives by remote control in the southeastern town of Sur.
The fatal incident happened as security forces were crossing a road in a remote neighborhood of Sur on the 22nd day of the curfew. One of the soldiers suffered terminal injuries in the explosion.
The injured were rushed to Diyarbakır's military hospital by an ambulance acting on a tip from the military. The injured soldier remained in the hospital for further treatment, but the critically-injured one died from his injuries at the hospital. The victim was identified as a specialized sergeant.
The town of Sur has become the scene of fierce clashes between security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists. The conflict is still continuing in the restive town.
Over the past 22 days, a total of 23 PKK terrorists have been neutralized by the military during a sweep operation. The number of military fatalities has risen to five while the injured toll has climbed to 36 during security operations launched to clean the region of terrorists.
