A globetrotter couple were left horrified after they narrowly escaped an attack by a gang of rapists on motorcycles in India.

Turkish citizen Duygu Keskin Hatton and her German husband Timmy Hatton who have been traveling in their caravan for two years, stated that a 4-member motorcycle gang broke the windows of their caravan with stones, before they tried to sexually assault them and battered Timmy in the process.

She conveyed the fearful moments they experienced on her Twitter account by saying, “I had never given a second thought to the perfect feeling of what was like to be alive until we were attacked by a gang and escaped being raped last night.”

Keskin stated that they narrowly escaped the gang with the help of a young man who had previously showed interest in the couple.

Keskin, who revealed that she is pregnant, said that one of the men even unzipped his pants.

The young couple wants the criminals to be immediately found and brought to justice.

Sexual violence against women is a huge problem in India where a rape occurs every 20 minutes. Many of the cases have drawn revulsion and anger across the country.

The highly publicized gang rape and murder of a woman in a bus in New Delhi in 2012 brought tens of thousands onto the streets across India and spurred demands for action from film stars and politicians, leading to harsher punishments and new fast-track courts. But the violence has continued unabated.

Women reported almost 34,000 rapes in 2018, barely changed from the year before. Just over 85% led to charges, and 27% to convictions, according to the annual crime report released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Women's rights groups say crimes against women are often taken less seriously, and investigated by police lacking in sensitivity.
