Romania will host the largest NATO base in Europe, as construction has begun on one of the alliance's largest military bases in the region.

Romania has allocated a budget of around $2.7 billion for the massive base, according to the local media.

Located near Constanta on the Black Sea coast, the 57th Air Base is undergoing significant expansion to accommodate an estimated 10,000 NATO personnel and their families.

The base is being designed to be self-sustaining and capable of fulfilling various operational requirements, featuring essential military infrastructure such as runways and hangars for military aircraft.

In addition to military facilities, plans include the construction of civilian amenities such as schools, kindergartens, shops, and even a hospital within the base.
