Russia says oil refinery in Ryazan region hit by drone strike

‘According to preliminary information, there are casualties,' says Ryazan governor

Russia said on Wednesday that an oil refinery in the country's Ryazan region was hit by a drone strike, a day after Moscow said Ukrainian drone attacks hit similar facilities in the Oryol and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

“The Ryazan oil refinery was attacked by a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). The impact started a fire. According to preliminary information, there are casualties,” Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov said in a statement on Telegram.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukraine launched attacks overnight and Wednesday morning by using a total of 58 aircraft-type UAVs.

“Air defense duty systems intercepted and destroyed 58 UAVs over the territories of Belgorod (11 UAVs), Bryansk (8 UAVs), Voronezh (29 UAVs), Kursk (8 UAVs), Leningrad (1 UAV), Ryazan (1 UAV),” the statement added.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.On Tuesday, local Russian authorities said two of its fuel facilities in the country's Oryol and Nizhny Novgorod regions were hit in mass Ukrainian airstrikes that also affected other regions, including the capital Moscow.
