Three Turkish soldiers were injured in a PKK terror attack in southeastern province of Sirnak, according to security sources on Sunday.

PKK terrorists targeted Hisarkapi military base area in Silopi district, near the Turkish-Iraqi border, with rocket launchers and long barreled weapons from northern Iraq, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

The injured were transferred to Sirnak Public Hospital, said the sources, adding that a security operation in the area was underway.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
