Turkey launched a huge operation on Wednesday against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

According to a statement by the Diyarbakır Governorate, a curfew was announced ahead of the operation in 71 towns and 106 farmlands across the rural Diyarbakır districts of Silvan, Kulp, Lice and Hazro.

The curfew came into effect at 8:00 a.m. (local time) and is expected to last for the duration of the operation.

The operation aims to neutralize PKK terrorists in the region, where a number of high-ranking members are said to be conducting terror activities.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
