Northern Ireland on Friday was added to the list of member states mentioned in the "decision on the principles regarding the implementation of the customs union established between Turkey and the European Community", the Official Gazette announced through a presidential decree.
The decision covers the procedures and principles regarding the trade of goods in free circulation in Turkey or the EU and customs transactions related to the trade made by the parties of the customs union through third countries.
The presidential decree took effect as of Jan. 1, 2021, and the trade minister will execute the decision.
Located in the northeast of the island of Ireland, the territory of Northern Ireland is a semi-autonomous region under the UK, which co-operates with the Republic of Ireland in several areas.
