Many governments around the world are scrambling to meet the basic needs of millions of citizens who have been confined to their homes amid the coronavirus outbreak as they face challenges to provide essential medical items such as face masks and disinfectants to help curb the pandemic.

However in a stark contrast to the rest of the world, Turkey's practices in times of hardship have proved the country's determination to sustain the welfare state.

The Turkish government is providing all essential goods and services to citizens older than 65 or those suffering from chronic illnesses as they are restricted indoors.

Hundreds of civil cervants --police officers, security guards, municipal employees--- distributed packages containing 200 ml of cologne (disinfectant) and five protective masks to more than 1 million households so far.

President Recep Tayyip Erdağan had earlier stated that the government has mobilized all resources and will leave no stone unturned in efforts to eliminate the coronavirus threat as soon as possible.

In addition to a wide array of nationwide efforts, the county also sent medical aid packages to countries worst-hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Two more hospitals with a capacity of 1,000 beds each are being established in Istanbul to help battle the virus.

The country has also approved tax discounts and delays for companies and citizens.

Turkey confirmed Tuesday the death toll of the novel coronavirus in the country surged to 725, with a total of 34,109 confirmed cases.
