Turkey’s “Advanced Jet Trainer & Light Attack Aircraft (Hürjet) Project” has designed a prototype that will be on display for the first time at the prominent Farnborough Airshow.

The weeklong Farnborough Airshow, one of the world's top aviation events, starts in the U.K. on Monday.

The Hürjet aircraft is the fruit of an advanced jet trainer and light attack aircraft project launched last year by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), and is expected to make its first flight in 2023 -- Turkey’s centennial.

There will be an eagle figure -- a longtime symbol of the Turkish nation and Turkish Air Force -- on the tail of the Hürjet, which will be exhibited at the fair with digital camouflage and domestically produced ammunition.

Hürjet, designed with the goal of 5th-generation training aircraft, will be equipped with an advanced mission computer in its modern cockpit.

The aircraft will be supplied with superior radar and sensitive attack systems, and with its air and ground communication capabilities it will reduce threats and risks.

The advanced prototype demonstrates the success of the Hürjet Project. Hürjet is expected to be used for Close Air Support, Red Aircraft and Air Policing (or board security and counterterrorism) missions by Turkey and allied countries.

Following the prototype stage, the project will shift into the flight stage and tests will be run. Hürjet’s first flight is expected to take place in 2023.

The maximum speed of Hürjet will be Mach 1.2; the maximum altitude will be 45,000 ft. and it will be equipped with modern flight, mission and training systems.

The Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) will also display the T-129 ATAK helicopter at the renowned airshow, and the aircraft will take part in flying shows. The Hurkus trainer, Anka UAV and a mock-up of its civil 625 helicopter will also be at the Farnborough Airshow.
