Turkish firm to produce hydrogen-powered aircraft for Germany

The high-tech Aquila Aviation GmbH company will be one of the three companies that will help manufacture Germany’s hydrogen-powered aircraft

The Aquila Aviation GmbH company, which operates as a subsidiary of BPlas, a leading Turkish high-tech-firm, has settled its position in the three-company consortium to manufacture Germany’s hydrogen-powered aircraft project.

The company, which has a 150-year-long tradition of industrial manufacturing, is managed by CEO Celal Gökçen.

Gökçen has also been a selected as part of the consortium of the companies’ responsible for the hydrogen-powered aircraft for the German government. Siemens, along with another company, is also part of this collaboration.

A Turkish brand in making

This opportunity will expand BPlas' activities and future to a new level, Gökçen said.

He also said that they were preparing to demonstrate the new models of aircrafts with different fuel technologies, engines and design next year and that their productions are ongoing in Bursa.

In 2010, Gökçen, in a collaboration with Manas and Orhan Holding manufactured Turkey's first three-wheel electric car and exhibited it in the world's largest auto show in Geneva.

BPlas bought the bankrupt Aquila Aviation in February 2016, in order to expand its horizons and activities in an important future market.

BPlas is one of Turkey's leading automotive suppliers for surface-coated plastic injection moldings.
