
Yasar Guler, Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky meet in Türkiye's capital Ankara
Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and his Hungarian counterpart Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky on Monday discussed military cooperation between the two countries and regional defense issues.
Guler and Szalay-Bobrovniczky held one-on-one and inter-delegation meetings at Türkiye's National Defense Ministry in the capital Ankara, the ministry said on X.
"We attach special importance to bilateral cooperation with our friend and ally Hungary," Guler said in a news conference along with Szalay-Bobrovniczky following their meetings, adding that Hungary is Türkiye's "one of the most important partners in Europe."
Stressing that they had productive talks to further develop bilateral relations, he added that they discussed ways to further develop cooperation in the defense industry.
"We reaffirmed our determination to utilize the potential areas of cooperation between Türkiye and Hungary in the most efficient way," he said.
Stressing that 2024 was celebrated as Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year and that 2025 is being celebrated as Turkish-Hungarian Year of Science and Innovation, Guler expressed his belief that bilateral ties between the countries will further strengthen with surging momentum in every field.
For his part, Szalay-Bobrovniczky expressed satisfaction that the relations are at their “most advanced level,” noting that Hungary is "proud" of maintaining cooperation with Türkiye both directly and within NATO.
Emphasizing that they also discussed the war in Ukraine, he highlighted that Hungary wants the war to end as soon as possible.
