A Turkish aid agency distributed winter clothing to refugees in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an official said on Wednesday.

Emre Çoban from the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) told Anadolu Agency that winter shoes, coats, sleeping bags, blankets, gloves and caps were distributed to asylum seekers in the northwestern city of Bihac.

Coban said he came to Bihac on behalf of IHH to meet the needs of the asylum seekers as the winter months approached and the cold weather began.

He said IHH helped over 200 refugees at Borici refugee camp with winter clothing as snow fell to the region.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has found itself in the midst of a migrant crisis with a government crying over lack of funds.

After the Balkan route -- through Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary or Croatia -- was closed for refugees in March 2016, Bosnia-Herzegovina is being used as an alternate route.

According to the latest figures, nearly to 20,000 asylum seekers have entered Bosnia and Herzegovina since the beginning of the year.
