The new legislative year of the Turkish Grand National Assembly opened on Saturday with an opening speech of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The parliament, which has been on summer recess since August 20, convened at 3 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT) under the leadership of Speaker İsmail Kahraman.
The session was the first since Turkey's military-backed Free Syrian Army's (FSA) Operation Euphrates Shield in Northern Syria.
Turkey's military presence in Syria, Iraq to be mulled
Following the President's opening speech, the general assembly discussed the extension of the Turkish military's presence in Syria and Iraq.
In 2014, the Parliament gave a mandate to Turkish Armed Forces to deploy its forces in the neighboring country, which was extended for another year in September 2015. The mandate is expected to be extended for another 12 months.
A traditional opening reception is expected to be held at 7 pm, after the assembly session.
