A specialist sergeant was martyred today in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, in an operation targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist organization, according to a statement made by the governor.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Hatay Governor Erdal Ata said the martyred sergeant was fighting alongside gendarmerie squads conducting an operation in the Amanos Mountains town of Dörtyol.
According to Ata, the martyred specialist sergeant has, for a few months, been part of a surveillance operation. But that this was his first direct, close encounter with the terrorist group.
"The attack is ongoing at the moment. However, we received information about his martyrdom," concluded Ata.
