The UN has revised the number of people who lost their lives from devastating floods in Libya to 3,958.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on Saturday said the death toll was 11,300, attributing the figure to the Libyan Red Crescent.

In a later situation report, however, the agency the updated figure citing the World Health Organization, and said more than 9,000 were still missing.

"These figures are expected to rise as search-and-rescue crews work tirelessly to find survivors," it said.

More than 40,000 people have been displaced across Libya’s northeastern areas by the deadly floods triggered by Storm Daniel just more than a week ago, according to the International Organization for Migration.
