Fuat Oktay's remarks came at the opening ceremony of Alparslan Turkes Museum which was once the house of the founder of Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Alparslan Türkeş, who was born in Lefkosa.

Oktay said the museum would be the symbol of unity and solidarity between Turkey and the TRNC.

"The late Türkeş was a prominent political figure not only for Turkey and TRNC but also for the Turkish world. His ideals he had voiced throughout his life is being followed by his family and Turks and the Turkish world," Oktay said and added:

"This museum will be a symbol of strong bonds for future generations."

Also speaking at the ceremony, TRNC Prime Minister Ersin Tatar said, "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is no longer a foster land for Turkey, but a grown homeland, which appeals to [Alparslan] Turkes's feelings."

"Türkeş wrote an epic ... and became the representative of the Turkish Cypriots," he added.

Turkes's son Tugrul Turkes, the Justice and Development (AK) Party lawmaker for Ankara, also attended the ceremony.
