Sabri Erbakan was fiercely criticized before the elections as he attempted to ask support for the leftist Republican People''s Party, making us of reputation of his late uncle Necmettin Erbakan, the leader of Welfare Party.

During his campaign, he was spotted as being filmed before CHP logo making a sign of the National Vision Movement, founded by his late uncle.

The opposition CHP was trailing behind the winner AK Party with 17 percent in the voting. AK Party''s candidate Fatih Mehmet Erkoç won 48.5 percent of the counted votes while he could just gain 31, 6 percent of the votes in the elections.
