According an initial information, the fight broke out after Sunday''s hot debate between the two candidates'' supporters turned into a gunfight in the central Siirt on Monday.
The candidate Behmen Aydin, 60, died on the spot while six others were wounded in the fight. The injured were taken to the state-run hospital in Siirt. They have remained in the intensive care unit.
Siirt governor Ahmet Aydin rushed the scene to inspect the incident. Aydin said the armed conflict was related to the tension which has sharply increased after the release of initial results. ''The perpetrators are still on the run. We have launched a wide investigation to seize them.''
Tillo district governor Ceyhun Dilsat said security measures have stepped up in the district to prevent any unrest in the region. ''Tillo has remained calm after the incident.''
According to unofficial results, the ruling Justice and Development Party''s Mehmet Mesut Memduoglu won the election in the district with 505 votes, while Aydin won 382 votes.
