Waterfall freezes over in Turkey’s Ağrı

One of Ağrı's mesmerizing waterfalls froze due to the touch of the bitter cold. The waterfall is located close to the city's airport attracting many domestic and foreign tourists. Ağrı is a province in eastern Turkey severely affected each year by cold weather.

Traffic accident in eastern Turkey kills 7

The accident occurred in the Doğubeyazıt district of Ağrı province between a bus bearing Iranian license plates and a light commercial vehicle going to Iran. Seven of the eight people traveling in the light commercial vehicle died at the scene and one was injured in the accident.

The injured passenger was transferred to Doğubeyazıt State Hospital while the dead bodies were taken to the hospital's morgue. Police are working to identify the victims.

In the meantime, the bus with the Iranian license plates fled the scene after the accident.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Military operation kills 7 PKK terrorists in Ağrı

Turkish security forces killed seven members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, on Monday in a counter terror operation on Mount Tendürek of eastern Turkey, Ağrı Governor's Office said in a statement.

“Seven terrorists were neutralized in a helicopter-backed operation against the separatist terror organization, the PKK, in the countryside of Mount Tendürek," it explained.

After yesterday's deadly attack which killed 6 security personnel in Istanbul and Şırnak provinces, Turkey's law enforcement authority had intensified its operation against terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, police units in Istanbul and Aydın have launched simultaneous pre-dawn operations and detained at least 24 terror suspects.

Deranged private kills three soldiers on duty: Governor

A soldier, apparently suffering from a mental illness, opened fire on three soldiers, who were on guard duty with him at the same sentry post near the town of Doğubeyazıt, in the eastern province of Ağrı, said the governor’s office.

The enlisted soldier killed the three soldiers with his infantry rifle when having a mental breakdown at around 11 pm, while he was on duty mission at the Martry Fehmi Altınordu Border Division Command, a part of the Gökay Battalion Command, said the governor’s office in its statement.

The statement has identified the slain soldiers as a specialist sergeant, a sergeant and an enlisted soldier.

The chief public prosecutor’s office in Doğubeyazıt has launched an inquiry into the killing rampage.
