Purple baklava for diabetics: World-famous Turkish dessert gets new color ahead of Eid

Having diabetes does not mean you should completely avoid the globally-famous Turkish dessert 'baklava.' A chef from Turkey's eastern province of Erzurum added a different color to Turkish baklava for diabetics and dieters by mixing the juice of raspberries and blackberries ahead of Eid al-Adha. Bus driver killed in highway ambush in eastern Turkey

A civilian minibus driver has died after he was shot by Kurdish separatists in northeastern Turkey on Monday, local officials said.

Garip Bektas, 43, was killed after suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants stopped another bus on the Erzurum to Ardahan highway and set it on fire, officials from Oltu and Senkaya districts told Anadolu Agency.

They reported that Bektas, a father-of-two, came across the scene and tried to run away when he was shot near the village of Aydogdu.

Police have launched an investigation.

The PKK -- considered a terror organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- renewed its armed campaign last month, since when it is said to have been responsible for the deaths of more than 40 security forces personnel.

Five PKK terrorists killed by Turkish security forces

The Turkish General Staff on Monday released a statement saying five terrorists were killed in clashes with security forces in the eastern provinces of Van and Hakkari.

According to the Turkish General Staff, four PKK terrorists were killed during the clashes between PKK and security forces in the town of Varto in Muş province, while the other terrorist was killed in Turkey's southeastern Şemdinli district of the Hakkari province.

Turkey's military and police have been hit by a number of attacks over the past week following the ISIL-linked suicide bombing in Suruç, Şanlıurfa province, that killed 32 people on July 20.
