Türkiye clinched their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kosovo in the European qualifiers playoff final.

European football clubs achieved record-breaking revenues exceeding €30 billion ($35.4 billion) in 2025, according to UEFA's 2025 European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report released Thursday, signaling a complete recovery and expansion beyond pre-pandemic financial levels. The report showed top-division club revenue is set to pass €30 billion this year, with commercial revenues alone exceeding €10 billion.

League Performance and Revenue Growth

Total revenue for top-division clubs reached €28.6 billion in the 2024 financial year, a 6.7% increase from the previous year. The English Premier League maintained its dominance as the wealthiest European league, generating €7.44 billion in 2024—nearly double that of Spain's La Liga, its closest competitor. The top-division list included 136 teams across Europe, with nine from the UK, eight each from Spain and Italy, seven each from France and Germany, and six each from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Türkiye.

Revenue Streams and Expenses

Commercial revenues, including sponsorships and merchandise, totaled €9.7 billion across all European top-tier clubs in 2024. Gate receipts surged 10% to €4.4 billion as stadium attendances hit record highs across the continent. Wages remained the largest expense for clubs, increasing 3.33% to €18.6 billion in 2024, as new financial sustainability regulations began taking effect.

Top Clubs and Turkish Performance

Real Madrid topped the revenue rankings with a record €1.18 billion in 2025, driven by Champions League success and stadium redevelopment. Barcelona followed with €989 million, Bayern Munich with €861 million, Manchester City with €855 million, and Liverpool with €852 million. Paris Saint-Germain (€837 million), Arsenal (€822 million), Manchester United (€793 million), Tottenham (€673 million), and Chelsea (€585 million) rounded out the top ten. Galatasaray emerged as the highest-earning Turkish club with revenues of €280 million, up 13% year-on-year, fueled by European competition participation and strong domestic merchandise sales.

The Champions League play-off between Benfica and Real Madrid was halted for approximately 10 minutes Tuesday after Vinicius Junior reported racist abuse to the referee. The Brazilian forward, who had just scored, triggered UEFA's anti-racism protocol before leaving the pitch with his teammates.

Tuesday's UEFA Champions League play-off match between Benfica and Real Madrid at Estadio da Luz was suspended for approximately 10 minutes after Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior alleged he was subjected to racist abuse. The incident occurred shortly after the Brazilian scored in the 50th minute to give the Spanish side a 1-0 lead, with Vinicius receiving a yellow card for his celebration near the corner flag.

Protocol Activation and Player Response

Following an exchange with Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni, Vinicius approached French referee Francois Letexier, who made the crossed-arms gesture signaling UEFA's anti-racism protocol. Vinicius subsequently left the pitch, followed by his Real Madrid teammates, as players and coaching staff from both sides engaged in discussions. Benfica manager Jose Mourinho was observed speaking with Vinicius amid the escalating tensions before play eventually resumed.

Ongoing Pattern of Abuse

The incident marks another chapter in Vinicius's ongoing experience with racist abuse during matches in Spain and Europe, having been targeted repeatedly in La Liga fixtures. The Brazilian has become a prominent voice against racism in football, with his cases often drawing international attention to persistent discrimination within the sport. UEFA is expected to investigate the incident and may take disciplinary action against Benfica if evidence supports the allegations.

In cross-country skiing, Sweden's Frida Karlsson earned her second gold of these Games by winning the women's 10-kilometer freestyle in 22:49.2, ahead of compatriot Ebba Andersson and American Jessie Diggins.

Luge Supremacy and Speed Skating Success

Germany's luge team relay of Julia Taubitz, Tobias Wendl, Tobias Arlt, Max Langenhan, Dajana Eitberger, and Magdalena Matschina captured gold with a time of 3:41.672, extending the nation's Olympic dominance to four consecutive titles. Austria secured silver, with Italy claiming bronze. Host nation Italy celebrated another gold as Francesca Lollobrigida triumphed in the women's 5,000-meter speed skating race in 6:46.17, her second gold of Milano-Cortina 2026, ahead of Dutch skater Merel Conijn and Norway's Ragne Wiklund.

Snowboard, Freestyle, and Short Track Fireworks

Austria's Alessandro Haemmerle successfully defended his Olympic crown in men's snowboard cross, while South Korea's 17-year-old Gaon Choi became the youngest medalist of the Games, scoring 90.25 points to win women's snowboard halfpipe gold ahead of American defending champion Chloe Kim. Australia's Cooper Woods claimed gold in men's moguls freestyle with 83.71 points. In short track speed skating, Dutch star Xandra Velzeboer set a world record of 41.399 seconds in the women's 500-meter semifinals before taking gold in 41.609 seconds. Italy's Arianna Fontana earned silver, her nation's sixth medal of the Games. Dutch skater Jens van 't Wout won men's 1,000-meter gold, with China's Long Sun and South Korea's Rim Jong-un completing the podium.

The delegations of the United States and Israel were met with audible boos from the crowd during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. The negative reception followed days of protests in Italy against the presence of US immigration agents on Olympic security duty and broader tensions over the war in Gaza.

The celebratory atmosphere of the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan was punctuated by vocal disapproval from sections of the crowd as the American and Israeli delegations entered San Siro stadium on Friday. The jeers highlighted how geopolitical tensions have intruded upon the international sporting event, overshadowing the traditional message of unity and respect.

Reception for US delegation and ICE controversy

The United States delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, faced a notable chorus of boos as they appeared on the stadium's big screen. The negative reaction came after days of controversy and street protests in Milan over the confirmed presence of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as part of the Olympic security detail. Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala had previously stated the agents were "not welcome," labeling ICE a "militia that kills." This local opposition directly fueled the public's response during the ceremony.

Response to Israeli delegation and broader protests

The Israeli team, comprising nine Olympians and one Paralympian, also encountered a "smattering of boos" upon entry, though broadcast music largely drowned out the sound. The protest extended beyond Milan, with simultaneous demonstrations reported in the Olympic host towns of Cortina d'Ampezzo and Predazzo. The reaction reflects ongoing global outcry over the war in Gaza; Palestinian officials state that more than 800 athletes have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023, a point that has mobilized segments of the international sports community.

Olympic officials' plea for respect and security context

Ahead of the ceremony, International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry had appealed for decorum, expressing hope the event would be "seen by everyone as an opportunity to be respectful of each other." The incidents underscore the heightened political sensitivities and security concerns surrounding these Games. The public jeering, a rare occurrence at an Olympic opening, signals a challenging environment for the IOC's aspiration to keep global politics separate from athletic competition.

Zeynep Sonmez stands one victory away from becoming the first Turkish tennis player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam singles event. She faces Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva in the Australian Open third round on Friday.

Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sonmez is poised to make history at the Australian Open in Melbourne. The 23-year-old, currently ranked 112th in the world, will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva on Friday in a third-round match that, if won, would send her into the last 16—a first for any Turkish player in a Grand Slam singles event.

The Historic Opportunity

Sonmez, who reached a career-high ranking of 69 last year and won the WTA Merida Open in 2024, has already broken new ground for Türkiye. She became the first Turkish woman in the Open Era to reach the third round of a major at Wimbledon in 2025 and the first to compete in all four Grand Slam main draws in a single season. A win over Putintseva would surpass the third-round benchmark set 75 years ago by Bahtiye Musluoğlu at the 1950 French Open and establish an unprecedented milestone.

Analyzing the Third-Round Challenge

Her opponent, 31-year-old Yulia Putintseva (world No. 94), is an experienced campaigner with three WTA titles and three Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances to her name, though never at the Australian Open. This will be the first career meeting between the two. The match is scheduled for Kia Arena, following the Tien-Borges contest which begins at 12:40 p.m. local time (0140 GMT).

Context of Turkish Tennis History

The history of Turkish players in Grand Slam singles is sparse. In the modern era, no Turkish man has passed the second round, with Marsel İlhan holding that record. In women's doubles, İpek Şenoğlu reached the third round at the 2004 US Open and 2009 Wimbledon. Sonmez's current run therefore represents the most significant individual achievement in decades, generating immense national pride and inspiring a new generation of athletes in Türkiye. Her performance underscores the growing profile of Turkish tennis on the world stage.

Real Madrid have parted ways with manager Xabi Alonso, the club confirmed on Monday. The sudden exit follows a painful defeat to arch-rival Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Former defender and club legend Álvaro Arbeloa, promoted from the youth academy, takes charge immediately. His first match will be a critical Copa del Rey fixture this week.

Real Madrid makes sudden coaching change after Super Cup loss to Barcelona

Real Madrid announced on Monday the immediate departure of first-team manager Xabi Alonso, ending his brief tenure after less than eight months. The decision, reached by mutual agreement, comes directly after the Spanish giants suffered a defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final held in Saudi Arabia.

A swift succession plan

In a swift move, the Madrid-based club named Álvaro Arbeloa as Alonso’s successor. Arbeloa, a former teammate of Alonso’s at both Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, has been the coach of the reserve team, Castilla, since June 2025. The club highlighted his deep roots, noting he has spent his entire coaching career within Real Madrid’s youth academy structure since 2020.

Immediate pressure in cup competition

The new head coach faces immediate pressure, with his first match scheduled for Wednesday. Real Madrid will travel to face Albacete in a high-stakes Copa del Rey round-of-16 clash. This cup tournament represents a quick opportunity for Arbeloa to make his mark and shift focus from the recent Super Cup disappointment.

A legend's farewell

The club’s official statement struck a respectful tone toward the departing Alonso, a former midfield star for the team. "Xabi Alonso will always carry the affection and admiration of all Madridistas because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club," the statement read, adding, "Real Madrid will always be his home." The managerial change underscores the relentless demand for success at one of the world’s most prestigious football institutions.

Leaders of Türkiye's major football clubs have urged their supporters to participate in a New Year's Day rally in Istanbul to protest the ongoing violence in Gaza. The event, organized by civil society groups, will take place at the city's iconic Galata Bridge on Thursday morning.

Club chairs frame rally as a moral imperative

Galatasaray Chair Dursun Ozbek described the situation in Gaza as a "test of conscience for humanity" in a video message, declaring, "We will not get used to this silence." Trabzonspor Chairman Ertugrul Dogan called the gathering "a stance, not just a march," while Besiktas Chair Serdar Adali emphasized that "the bloodshed and tears in Palestine have not stopped."

Broad support across the Super Lig

Other top-flight clubs, including Fenerbahce, Basaksehir, Konyaspor, Kayserispor, and Gaziantep FK, issued social media statements endorsing the rally and encouraging public participation. The unified stance from traditionally rival fan bases highlights the widespread public sentiment in Türkiye regarding the conflict.

Context of ceasefire violations and civilian toll

The rally comes amid reports of continued violence despite a ceasefire agreement in October. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, over 400 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began. At a recent press conference, civil society representatives cited a death toll exceeding 70,000 civilians since the war's start in 2023, framing the event as an act of solidarity with the oppressed.

As Monterrey races to build infrastructure for the 2026 World Cup, activists warn that costly, tourist-focused projects are bypassing environmental laws and failing to address the city's deep-rooted public transport crisis affecting millions of residents.

As one of Mexico’s host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Monterrey and its metropolitan area in Nuevo Leon are in a frantic rush to overhaul infrastructure. However, activists and residents contend that the multi-million dollar projects are designed for tourists and are exacerbating, rather than solving, a profound mobility crisis that ranks as the top concern for locals.

Green Corridor Billboards Mask Harsh Reality

In Guadalupe, near the BBVA Stadium, billboards advertise a "Green Corridor" for pedestrian mobility. Yet the surrounding streets are plagued by potholes, dangerous crossings, and a glaring lack of infrastructure for cycling or walking. While Governor Samuel Garcia promises "world-class" improvements that will remain after the tournament's 40 days, locals like Angel Mario Ochoa note that basic repairs only began after years of neglect and coincide directly with World Cup preparations.

Rushed Mega-Projects and Environmental Damage

The centerpieces of the overhaul are the new monorail Lines 4 and 6, touted as the continent's largest. Their construction, however, has been marred by rushed processes and environmental harm. Activists from the collective Un Rio en el Rio report that work on Line 4 along the Santa Catarina River began without a required environmental impact assessment, has damaged drainage systems, and involves dumping rubble that threatens the river's biodiversity. "They are bypassing every possible environmental law," says defender Andrea Villarreal.

Addressing the Wrong Audience Amid a Sprawling City

Urban experts point to the core of the crisis: Monterrey is a low-density, sprawling metropolis where only about 1% of the population primarily uses the existing metro, compared to 50% who rely on buses. Despite announcements of thousands of new buses, fleet growth has stagnated. Commute times for bus users now approach three hours daily. Activists argue that investment is misdirected toward flashy, extraordinary projects while ordinary needs—like safe sidewalks, reliable buses, and accessible stops—are ignored. "We want to claim the medal for doing something extraordinary, when we still lack the most ordinary things," says mobility activist Miriam Torres.

Hidayet Turkoglu has been elected to the FIBA Hall of Fame, becoming the first athlete from Türkiye to receive the sport's highest international honor. The induction celebrates his two-decade career as a trailblazing NBA player, a national team leader, and his transformative work as President of the Turkish Basketball Federation.

Hidayet Turkoglu, the trailblazing Turkish basketball star and sports administrator, has cemented his legacy by earning induction into the FIBA Hall of Fame. This historic achievement makes the 46-year-old former NBA forward the very first athlete from Türkiye to be enshrined in the international basketball hall of fame, honoring his exceptional contributions to the game both on and off the court over a 20-year career.

A Pioneer on the International and NBA Stage

Turkoglu's journey as a pioneer for Turkish basketball is unparalleled. After helping Anadolu Efes reach the EuroLeague Final Four in 2000, he was selected 16th overall in the NBA Draft, becoming just the second Turkish player in the league's history. His 15-season NBA career was highlighted by winning the Most Improved Player award in 2008 and reaching the NBA Finals with the Orlando Magic in 2009. He remains the all-time leader among Turkish players in NBA games played (1,106 combined regular season and playoffs) and is the only one to surpass 10,000 career points, finishing with 11,022.

Leadership for the Turkish National Team and Federation

His impact wearing the national team jersey was equally profound. Turkoglu was a central figure in Türkiye's golden generation, capturing a silver medal at EuroBasket 2001 and, most memorably, another silver on home soil at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team. Since retiring and assuming the presidency of the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) in 2016, he has successfully transitioned his leadership. Under his guidance, the national team ended a 15-year medal drought by winning silver at EuroBasket 2022, the nation's first podium finish abroad.

A Lasting Legacy for Turkish Basketball

The FIBA Hall of Fame honor recognizes not only Turkoglu's playing career but also his ongoing work in developing the sport. His tenure as TBF President has seen concrete investments in the future, most notably the opening of the Turkcell Basketball Development Centre, which houses Türkiye's first dedicated basketball high school. He will be officially enshrined alongside other global greats like Dirk Nowitzki and Sue Bird in a ceremony in Berlin, Germany, on April 21, 2026. This induction solidifies his status as the foundational figure who elevated Turkish basketball onto the world stage.

Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have publicly congratulated the people of Syria on the first anniversary of their Liberation Day, which marks the overthrow of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024. The gesture highlights the growing intersection of international sports and geopolitical solidarity.

A message of freedom and peace from the club

The message was posted on Monday by ‘Atletiarabe,’ the club’s official Arabic-language Instagram account. It featured a video montage blending imagery of three Atletico star players with iconic Syrian landmarks and the Syrian flag. The caption read: “Hold your head high, you are a free Syrian. From all of us at Atletico Madrid, we extend our congratulations to our beloved friends in Syria on Liberation Day, and we wish you lasting safety and peace.”

Symbolism and the resonance of sports diplomacy

This public acknowledgment from a major European football club lends a unique cultural dimension to international recognition of Syria’s political transformation. By choosing its Arabic-language platform, Atletico Madrid directly engaged with its substantial Middle Eastern fanbase, using the universal language of sport to convey a message of support for freedom and national renewal.

Context of Syria's ongoing transition

The anniversary commemorates the end of decades of rule by the Assad family and the Baath Party, a pivotal moment that has set Syria on a complex path of recovery and reconstruction. While such gestures from global sports entities are rare, they reflect a broader trend of cultural diplomacy and the normalization of Syria’s new political reality in the international public sphere beyond formal state channels.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize to Donald Trump, praising his "extraordinary" role in brokering ceasefires and agreements in multiple global conflicts.

US President Donald Trump was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize on Friday during the World Cup draw in Washington, recognized for his mediation in several international conflicts. FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award, stating it honors an individual who exemplifies an "unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity throughout the world through their notable leadership and action." He specifically lauded Trump for achieving results "in an incredible way."

Trump's Acceptance and Claim of Diplomatic Success

In accepting the award, Trump called it "truly one of the great honors of my life," and cited his administration's role in ending or averting multiple wars. "So many different wars that we’re able to end, in some cases, a little bit before they started," he stated. The award comes as Trump continues to advocate for the Nobel Peace Prize, leveraging his diplomatic record as a key part of his political narrative.

List of Cited Conflict Mediations

FIFA's recognition references several diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration. These include brokering a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitating an end to hostilities between India and Pakistan, and mediating agreements between Thailand and Cambodia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Armenia and Azerbaijan. The citation also mentions Trump's intervention in a June conflict between Israel and Iran, where he claimed US strikes "decimated" Iran's nuclear program, and his efforts to reduce tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia.

Context and Reaction

The creation and awarding of the FIFA Peace Prize to a sitting US president marks a significant, and likely controversial, foray by the global football governing body into geopolitical recognition. The move is seen as aligning with Trump's ongoing campaign to solidify a legacy as a peacemaker, even as many of the cited agreements remain fragile and subject to criticism. The ceremony underscores the blending of international sports diplomacy with high-profile political endorsement.

Substitute Jhon Duran scored a dramatic stoppage-time header to earn Fenerbahce a 1-1 draw against arch-rival Galatasaray in a crucial Turkish Super Lig match. The late equalizer denied the league leaders a victory at Ulker Stadyumu and keeps the title race finely poised.

A dramatic 95th-minute header from substitute Jhon Duran salvaged a vital point for Fenerbahce in a tense 1-1 draw against arch-rival Galatasaray on Monday. The match, a pivotal clash in the 2025-26 Turkish Super Lig title race, saw league-leader Galatasaray take a first-half lead, only to be denied at the death by Fenerbahce's marquee summer signing. The result at Istanbul's packed Ulker Stadyumu keeps the championship battle intensely close, with Galatasaray just one point ahead of their historic rivals.

Galatasaray's Early Control and Lead

The visitors, Galatasaray, executed their game plan effectively in the first half, controlling periods of play and striking first. German winger Leroy Sane broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, putting the league leaders ahead with a well-taken finish. Fenerbahce struggled to convert possession into clear chances before the break, leaving the home supporters frustrated as their team trailed in one of world football's most heated derbies, historically known as the "Intercontinental Derby".

Fenerbahce's Pressure and Dramatic Climax

The home side emerged with greater urgency after halftime, applying sustained pressure and creating several opportunities. However, a combination of errant finishing and resilient Galatasaray defending seemed destined to hand the visitors all three points. The narrative shifted entirely in the dying moments of stoppage time. Colombian striker Jhon Duran, who joined Fenerbahce on a high-profile loan from Al-Nassr in the summer, rose to meet a cross and powered a header into the net, sparking wild celebrations in the 95th minute.

Impact on the Super Lig Title Race

The last-gasp equalizer has significant implications for the championship. With this draw, Galatasaray's points tally moves to 33 from 14 matches, maintaining their position at the summit. Fenerbahce, now on 32 points, remains hot on their heels in second place. The single-point gap ensures the title race remains wide open, adding even greater importance to future fixtures. For Fenerbahce, the draw felt like a victory, showcasing the immediate impact of their strategic investment in a proven goalscorer like Duran to challenge for domestic supremacy.

Morocco has cemented its status as a rising football power by winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup, defeating Argentina 2-0 in the final. This achievement adds to the country's remarkable football trajectory, which includes a historic semifinal run in the 2022 World Cup and preparations to co-host the 2030 tournament. The North African nation's sustained success stems from strategic infrastructure investment and youth development programs.

Morocco's national football program has achieved another milestone by capturing the FIFA U-20 World Cup title with a 2-0 victory over Argentina in Chile. The Atlas Lions' triumph, secured through two goals from Portuguese-based striker Yassir Zabiri, makes them only the second African nation to claim the prestigious youth tournament after Ghana's 2009 victory. This success further elevates Morocco's growing reputation in international football following their historic semifinal appearance in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Strategic Infrastructure Development

The country's football renaissance results from deliberate long-term planning and substantial infrastructure investment. Morocco has renovated or completely rebuilt major stadiums in Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakesh, and Rabat, with the iconic Ibn Battuta Stadium expanding its capacity from 45,000 to 75,000 seats. These facility enhancements, part of an $8.7 billion rail and infrastructure modernization program, directly support Morocco's preparations to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Youth Academy Foundation

Central to Morocco's football strategy is the Mohammed VI Football Academy, established in 2009 under royal patronage to identify and develop young talent. The academy system has produced a generation of players who now compete at top European clubs, with over 700 Moroccan footballers currently playing abroad. This pipeline of professionally trained athletes has strengthened both domestic clubs and the national team program, creating a sustainable model for football development that benefits from international experience.

Women's Football Advancement

Morocco's football revolution extends beyond the men's game, with significant investment in women's football yielding tangible results. The women's national team has reached the finals of the last two Women's Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and aims to claim the title when it hosts the 2026 competition. The country provides scholarships for both boys and girls to pursue football careers, ensuring the sport's growth across genders and establishing football as Morocco's dominant sport.

Global Tournament Ambitions

With eight consecutive victories in their 2026 World Cup qualification group, Morocco has demonstrated that their 2022 semifinal performance was no anomaly. The team's consistent excellence under coach Walid Regragui positions them as serious contenders for future international honors. As co-hosts of the unprecedented six-country 2030 World Cup spanning three continents, Morocco stands poised to showcase both its organisational capabilities and footballing quality on the global stage.

The tournament, designed to operate within FIFA's International Match Calendar, aims to significantly elevate football's profile and development across Southeast Asia's approximately 700 million inhabitants.

Strategic Development Initiative

Infantino explained that the competition will "give a real boost to football" by featuring the region's best players in a structured international framework.
Global football's governing body confronts escalating calls to ban Israel from international competitions over Gaza operations, creating a crisis of institutional consistency after its swift suspension of Russia. The Turkish Football Federation has joined European nations in demanding action.

FIFA confronts a critical test of its ethical consistency as mounting international pressure demands Israel's exclusion from the 2026 World Cup over military operations in Gaza. The debate transcends sports governance, forcing football's world body to navigate complex political and humanitarian considerations while maintaining credibility after its decisive 2022 suspension of Russia.

Historical Precedent and Institutional Dilemma

The organization's swift action against Russia following the Ukraine invasion established a significant precedent for using sports sanctions as responses to international conflicts. FIFA President Gianni Infantino's recent appearance at the Gaza Summit in Egypt highlighted the political dimensions of the current crisis, though he subsequently avoided direct commentary on Israel's status, asserting that "football cannot be part of geopolitical ambitions." This stance has drawn criticism from multiple football federations questioning FIFA's selective application of principles.

Growing International Consensus

Spain, Norway, Ireland, and Belgium have formally urged FIFA and UEFA to impose sanctions on Israel, with the Turkish Football Federation actively supporting these initiatives. United Nations rapporteurs have amplified these calls, issuing a formal statement demanding Israel's suspension from international football "in response to the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories." This coalition reflects broadening consensus that sporting bodies cannot claim neutrality amid severe humanitarian crises.

Divergent Positions and Institutional Future

While Germany and the United Kingdom advocate keeping football separate from geopolitical disputes, the prevailing momentum favors sanctioning Israel. UEFA has scheduled a special session to address the matter, indicating the seriousness of the institutional challenge. FIFA's eventual decision will define whether the organization can maintain consistent ethical standards or risks permanent damage to its credibility by applying selective morality to international conflicts.

Turkish champion freediver Sahika Ercumen has broken her own world record, reaching 107 meters in the variable weight without fins category. The athlete dedicated her achievement to the people of Gaza, delivering a powerful message of solidarity from the waters of Antalya under the slogan "Let Gaza Breathe."

Turkish national athlete Sahika Ercumen has set a new world record in freediving during a special demonstration dedicated to raising awareness for Gaza. The champion diver reached 107 meters in the variable weight without fins category, surpassing her previous record of 106 meters in a dive lasting 3 minutes and 21 seconds.

A Dive with Deeper Meaning

The record-breaking attempt in Antalya's Mediterranean waters carried significant symbolic weight. Upon surfacing, Ercumen and her team displayed Turkish and Palestinian flags alongside banners reading "Let Gaza Breathe." The dive was explicitly dedicated to drawing international attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and commemorating the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.

Emotional Achievement for Türkiye

In post-dive comments, Ercumen described unique emotional pressure surrounding this attempt. "Representing my country as a national athlete is deeply meaningful to me," she stated. "I'm overwhelmed with emotion because not only did we bring a world record to Türkiye, but we also managed to deliver a message from our country to the whole world." She noted the coincidence that exactly ten years earlier, during another record attempt, she had also advocated for Gaza during a period of conflict.

Personal Connection to the Cause

Ercumen drew powerful parallels between her athletic discipline and the plight of Gazans. "I wanted to hold my breath in the water for Gaza so they could breathe," she explained. "I know very well what it feels like not to breathe for minutes, and they have been subjected to this oppression for far too long." Despite challenging preparation conditions including storms that canceled training sessions, Ercumen credited her team's support for enabling the record achievement.

The Turkish Football Federation has announced it will direct all ticket revenue from Tuesday's international football match to humanitarian assistance for Gaza. The decision affects the World Cup qualifying match between Türkiye and Georgia, transforming the sporting event into a fundraising initiative for Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict.

Humanitarian Initiative

In an official statement released Monday, the federation's Board of Directors declared that ticket sales from the Group E qualifier would be donated "to the people of Gaza, who are enduring a humanitarian tragedy." The match, scheduled for Kocaeli Stadium in Izmit, represents a tangible demonstration of solidarity with Palestinian civilians facing severe hardship after two years of conflict.

Match Details and Fan Appeal

The crucial World Cup qualification match is set to kick off at 9:45 PM local time on Tuesday evening. Federation officials explicitly called on Turkish football supporters to "stand united in support of our national team" at the stadium, emphasizing that attendance would directly contribute to the humanitarian effort. The appeal aims to generate maximum financial support through stadium attendance while maintaining the competitive importance of the qualification match.

Political Context

The humanitarian gesture occurs amid ongoing international efforts to address the Gaza situation, including recent ceasefire agreements and diplomatic initiatives involving multiple nations. The federation's statement included strong condemnation of "this genocide taking place before the eyes of the world," aligning with Türkiye's consistent diplomatic position advocating for Palestinian rights and humanitarian relief throughout the prolonged conflict.

Türkiye will use all its energy to qualify for the World Cup: Head coach Montella

'A country like Türkiye should always have big goals ... We will do everything in our power to achieve it,' said Vincenzo Montella ahead of key matches on road to World Cup

Türkiye’s national football team head coach Vincenzo Montella said his side will put all its energy into qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining that the national team should always aim high.

Montella, 51, stressed the importance of the journey ahead. “There is a tournament we haven’t been part of for 24 years. Of course, we will use all our energy to qualify,” he told Anadolu.

On the games ahead, he explained: “Our first game will be (Sept. 4) against Georgia, a very important opponent. We can see how much they have developed recently and how they have progressed as a team. Compared to the European Championship, they now have a more settled squad. From the first match on, we will focus all our concentration and energy.”

Asked whether Türkiye’s long absence from the World Cup is creating pressure, the Italian coach said such expectations are natural: “This is very normal. A country like Türkiye should always have big goals. We must prepare the players in the best possible way. We want this very much, and we will do everything in our power to achieve it.”

On the group stage, Montella spoke on the strength of Türkiye’s rivals: “From the first pot, we drew Spain, the European champions. From the third pot, Georgia, a strong opponent. From the fourth, Bulgaria, who collected the most points. Objectively, it is one of the toughest groups, but that doesn’t matter to us. We need to move forward step by step.”

Asked about the threat posed by Spain’s young stars, he said balance will be the key: “We place great importance on team balance. Since I arrived, I’ve always underlined this. Against opponents of such quality, you can’t only focus on Yamal, Nico Williams, or Pedri. You must consider the whole team. Our preparation will be as usual, focusing on what we can do while also studying the opponent’s weaknesses. Like every match, we must prepare in the best possible way.”

-Young internationals

On Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ferdi Kadioglu, who has been out with a long-term injury, Montella said he is close to returning. “We’re closely following his situation and will talk to him to get a sense of how he feels. But I feel his return is very close. Ferdi wants to be here. He’s been away from his teammates and the team for a long time. I want him here as well. This week I will see him and our performance coach will assess him. Then we will have clearer information and can give a more precise answer.”

On Istanbul team Galatasaray’s Nicolo Zaniolo, Montella underlined the midfielder’s potential: “He’s a very talented player with high physical and technical capacity. He can play at the international level. He has had some small injuries, but if he can gain continuity in terms of playing time, I believe he can reach his potential.”

Montella also praised the progress of Türkiye’s young internationals Arda Guler and Kenan Yildız: “Arda plays for such a team where the only thing that matters is winning. He’s starting to embrace this mentality, and his technical skills are improving. Similarly, Kenan plays for one of the clubs with the most trophies. The will and desire to win is very high there. Their physical and mental development is very important. The higher their level, the higher the national team’s level will rise. That’s why I follow them with great happiness.”

On whether new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso can affect Arda Guler’s progress or not, he said: “Even with (former Coach Carlo) Ancelotti, he was getting more playing time. I believe when you go to such a successful team, there’s always a process of adaptation. You must adapt to that mentality, and you must win in every competition. Arda’s technical skills are unquestionable, but his adaptation has been both mental and physical. If Ancelotti had stayed, I also knew Arda would play more this season.”

Turning to Yildız, Montella described him as disciplined and ambitious: “Kenan Yildız is very hardworking, eager to improve, and ambitious. He’s also a nice player.” Smiling, he added: “As for fashion, I need to do some research because at the moment, I don’t think he’s very fashionable. But when I was his age, I dressed even worse.”

The Italian coach welcomed recent high-profile transfers to the Turkish Super League, including Victor Osimhen, Jhon Duran, Orkun Kokcu and Tammy Abraham, highlighting their positive impact on the league’s reputation and competitiveness.

“These are very important names. They shine a spotlight on the league. I also think this boosts the league’s appeal in the eyes of other players. Osimhen showed that he really wanted to play at Galatasaray and fought incredibly hard with Napoli to return. He’s young, important, and at an international level. Players like him can pave the way for others to come. It is of course pleasing to see such players here.”

'We can no longer stay silent,' Formula 1 legend says, referring to deaths of children caused by hunger and malnutrition following months of Israeli blockade of Gaza

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champion, reacted strongly on Saturday to the deaths of children caused by hunger and malnutrition following months of Israeli blockade of Gaza and a few aid distribution centers that have also been subjected to inhumane attacks, saying, "We can no longer stay silent."

In a social media story ahead of this weekend's race in Belgium, Hamilton shared a UNICEF post that mentioned that "More than 100 children were killed in intensified strikes in Gaza during the first week of July, according to reports. The killing of children has continued every day since. Ceasefire now."

"We can no longer stay silent," Hamilton stated in a social media post.

Deaths from hunger and malnutrition, particularly among children, are also increasing due to the blockade of the Gaza Strip, along with Israeli attacks.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Friday that the number of Palestinians who died from hunger and malnutrition during Israel's ongoing attacks on Gaza, which began on Oct. 7, 2023, has reached 122, including 83 children.

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza, killing over 59,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

'It's the greatest feeling in the world to be champion,' says Sarunas Jasikevicius

Fenerbahce Beko coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and Nigel Hayes-Davis, who was named the 2025 EuroLeague Final Four MVP, answered questions at a post-game press conference after the team defeated Monaco 81-70 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague final to become champions Sunday.

Hayes-Davis said he wasn't sure how he would feel after the championship.

"I believed all year, especially last month, we had what it took to win. When you do it over and over, you get numb to it. So I've seen it so many times in my mind…It's good to see my teammates happy, staff happy, everyone happy. I'm relishing the moment of the entire family being happy."

Asked about his thoughts on the lyrics "10% luck, 20% skill" in the song that played when he was announced as MVP, the US player said: "I disagree with the percentages. In games like this, it's 90% effort…The first thing that was mentioned (before the game) was if we don't match or exceed Monaco's physicality and effort, we won't have a chance…I feel we have the bigger team. We were able to bring guys off the bench and to play 1, 2, 5 minutes and give us something. At the end of 40 minutes, the winner is the champion."

Hayes-Davis played a joke on Jasikevicius, who teased him by saying "you were okay" as he saw him off from the press conference, by emptying his water bottle on the Lithuanian coach.

"That's the problem with the new generation. They don't know how to celebrate," Jasikevicius sarcastically commented on his player's celebration.

- 'Greatest feeling in the world'

Jasikevicius, who has been to the Final Four four times before in his career, spoke about the psychology of being a winner for the first time.

"I'd like to congratulate our fans, our players. This is exactly the way to win the championship -- knowing how to suffer, how to do everything. Got a big monkey on my shoulders after being so close for so many years and consistently being here (in the finals). To get over the hump was difficult at some moment," he said.

"It was unfair for me when people said ‘If Sarunas is gonna win, the question is when is he gonna win?' The people kind of not understanding the difficulty of achieving this trophy. It's very difficult. The players matter the most. We coaches are the ones to take all the blame when players don't succeed, but the whole situation was always difficult for me and was not fair," he added.

"We'd like to dedicate the trophy to my family, especially to my wife. She is the rock of our family. She is the one who has been dealing with all my crazy friends over the years. Sometimes dinners with 30-40 people came to get me during the Final Four. It was miserable."

Noting that there is no difference in winning the title as a coach or a player, he said: "I can't win as a player anymore...(But) it's the same thing. It's the greatest feeling in the world to be a champion."

Commenting on Hayes-Davis, the veteran coach said: "I don't think his role changed. In general, no matter what you see on the court, I really make a big effort to have a good relationship with players. Nigel didn't come to the Final Four 100%. I really appreciated how he played in the semifinal. He was patient. He wasn't forcing things. This is a sign of maturity. I'm happy with his work ethic."

Jasikevicius also noted that Marko Guduric's performance was decisive for the trophy.

"Marko is really solid. He understands what we want from him. He was really aggressive. His drive against Monaco, his shots sealed the championship for us."

Emphasizing that it is normal for the team to be nervous at the Final Four stage, Jasikevicius said: "I said it's OK to be nervous. Embrace it, head on. I played 12 Final Fours as a player. As a coach, I'm nervous as hell. Everybody is nervous. It's OK."

To a question about the final being played in Abu Dhabi, he said: "If this title comes on the moon, I'm OK with it. It feels like everything is the same.”

Explaining his thoughts on lifting the trophy as both a player and a coach, he said: "This is for you guys, not for me. I'm just here for the title, whatever comes with it, the media stats. I'm honored. There is no question, and I'm so grateful to be a part of Fenerbahce. I'm really honored to be working with the best general manager in European basketball," he added.

‘We are very interested in Türkiye as a market for the new league project in Europe,' says George Aivazoglou

Managing Director of the NBA Europe and Middle East George Aivazoglou announced that he was interested in Turkish clubs for an NBA Europa League project.

Aivazoglou commented to Anadolu on the purpose and details of the NBA Europa League project and the new dynamic it will bring to European basketball, as well as the countries and teams that can take part in the league.

Emphasizing that there are big clubs in Türkiye with incredible history and passionate fans, Aivazoglou congratulated Fenerbahce on making it to the Final Four, the final stage of the Europa League.

“Fenerbahce is a great club. I congratulate them on making it to the Final Four. Galatasaray is also a great club. There are also great clubs like Anadolu Efes and Besiktas,” said Aivazoglou. “We are very interested in Türkiye as a market for the new league project in Europe. We are very interested in Istanbul as a city.”

Stating that he wants to reward success in the league system, Aivazoglou pointed out that “even if Galatasaray wins the Turkish championship, it cannot participate in Europe's top-tier cup. This does not happen in football. In football, the team that wins the Turkish league gains the right to participate in the UEFA Champions League. We want to fix this.”

-Meeting with Turkish clubs

Aivazoglou noted he had the chance to meet clubs at a board meeting of the Europa League in Istanbul where they exchanged views with the president of the Fenerbahce Club.

“It was a great opportunity to meet with all the clubs and some of the owners. We met with Fenerbahce President Ali Koc,” he said. “I would say the general feeling was very positive. I reiterated that we are very open to collaborating with anyone in the ecosystem who wants to be a partner in this project and contribute to how we bring this vision to life.”

- New pathways for prospective clubs to join league

Aivazoglou cited the lack of media and sponsorship representation in Western European cities with big markets as a reason for the lower popularity of European basketball

Stating that he is interested in big cities and markets of Western Europe, Aivazoglou said, “I can say many cities such as Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, London and Manchester in England, Paris and Lyon in France, Milan and Rome in Italy, Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin in Germany -- we are interested in these cities,” he said.

“There are three ways for interested cities and teams to join our league. First, clubs that want to join our league voluntarily. Second, existing football clubs that do not have a basketball team but want to establish one. Third, completely new clubs,” said Aivazoglou, adding that his group will evaluate all options as research is ongoing.

On the question of clubs from the Middle East joining the new league, Aivazoglou said that they would not have any from the region.

“We are very clear on this issue. We want our league to be a European League in a geographical sense. That's why a club from the Middle East will not be in the league,” he stressed.

- A clearer structure to reward success, based on merit

Elaborating on the new NBA league, Aivazoglou said the aim is to start with 16 teams to be permanent members.

“We also want some of these teams to come from the ecosystem. These can be different teams every year, and they can earn the right to compete in our league. I think this offers a fundamental change to the current structure of European basketball. We can consider it as a step towards a single and clearer pyramid that is very transparent and easy to understand, but also fair, rewards success, and is based on merit,” he said.

“We believe this league can follow European standards,” added Aivazoglu, “It will be created to respect traditions, fan passion and the way the game is played in Europe. We are aware that this is clearly different from the way it is played outside of Europe and in the United States.”

'We're Irish, and we can relate so much to what's going on in Gaza,' says Ryan Fallon, one of three kayakers who paddled 5,000 km from Dublin to Istanbul for a cause

- 'You're going all day, you're struggling all day — and you appreciate the little things so much,' says Johnny Coyne of the 8-month kayak odyssey to Türkiye

- 'These guys want to do something for change,' says activist Reshad Strik of the Irish trio, adding: 'This is an amazing example of what can be achieved'

After almost eight months, 13 countries, and 5,000 grueling kilometers, three Irish kayakers reached the Asiatic shore of Istanbul, completing an epic journey that began in Dublin.

Johnny Coyne, Liam Cotter, and Ryan Fallon came to the end of their cross-continental expedition, “Project Dublin to Istanbul,” last Friday — a feat of endurance aimed at raising funds for a therapeutic center in Ireland for children with cancer and boost awareness for humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

They paddled up to the district of Uskudar, which faces continental Europe from the other side of the Istanbul Strait, they were welcomed by their families, Anadolu, Bosnian-Australian filmmaker and activist Reshad Strik, and supporters from around the world. The trio posed with the flags of Ireland, Türkiye, and Palestine.

- ‘You appreciate the little things so much'

Donning a Türkiye national football jersey to mark the moment, Johnny Coyne said the expedition transformed his outlook on life.

“You're out in the nature all the time and it feels very primitive,” he told Anadolu. “You're going all day, you're struggling all day — and you appreciate the little things so much. That's how it gives me purpose.”

But the journey wasn't without its doubts. One of the toughest setbacks came in France, where a canal closure left them stranded for three weeks.

“We were asked to leave the canals in France because the section we got to was closed. We were stuck for three weeks with not knowing what to do,” he recalled.

Instead of quitting, the trio carried their kayaks 350 kilometers (about 217 miles) — on foot — to reach the Danube's source.

“We were going up mountains, along rivers, just pulling our kayaks. That was one of the most challenging moments, but we managed to get through it.”

Living with only essentials, Coyne said, reshaped his sense of what matters. Sleeping under the stars, relying on each other, and moving through vast landscapes revealed lessons that could not be taught in conventional settings.

He also stressed that the trip was not just about testing their limits — it was about raising awareness for causes close to their hearts. That includes Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 52,000 Palestinians and leveled vast swathes of the enclave, while its ongoing siege has left hundreds of thousands grappling with severe shortages of food, fuel, and medicine.

“I know there's not much I can do personally but spread awareness,” said Coyne, referring to the humanitarian crisis. “I just think everyone knows and there needs to be an input to it.”

- Roughest waters: Battling the English Channel

For teammate Liam Cotter, the most punishing stretch was the English Channel.

“The most difficult stretch of water we were on was probably the English Channel,” he said. “Myself and Johnny, we arrived on the cliffs of Dover at about 10 or 11 p.m. the night before we were crossing.

“We slept right underneath the cliffs of Dover — no tent — we just jumped into our sleeping bags, slept for about four hours, got up at about 4 a.m. and just got going.”

What should have taken just a few hours ended up taking half the day.

“The weather wasn't what it was supposed to be, it was choppy … it was really, really tough, but we got there in the end.”

Cotter said their resilience, forged by deep friendship, helped them push through.

“I think that me and Johnny make a pretty good team. Even when we did get in arguments, I think we're pretty good at just laying it to rest and just getting over it and just moving on with things.”

“Some days we're in the kayaks for eight hours straight and no breaks. We just go and just eating tins of tuna and nuts and stuff all day. It can get a bit monotonous.”

Yet, for Cotter, the mission went beyond the paddle.

“We're making a documentary, so we have an opportunity to spread the word,” he said, referring to the conditions Palestinians face under Israeli attacks in Gaza. “It's horrendous, it's criminal, and it's great for us to have the opportunity to spread the word and help people understand what's happening.”

- ‘We can relate so much to what's going on in Gaza'

Ryan Fallon joined the expedition in Strasbourg, Germany.

There were times during the expedition when he had to make tough decisions to keep the group safe. But the kindness they encountered on the road made it all worthwhile.

“What surprised me most? People's kindness,” he said. “Especially in Türkiye, people have been so amazing and welcoming.”

But as the team entered Istanbul, navigating the crowded waters of its iconic strait made for a stressful final stretch.

As they cut across the international commercial chokepoint, he said, they “were really cramped in, getting splashed around. I was afraid of capsizing at the end.”

Looking to the future, Fallon said upcoming adventures would also center around meaningful causes.

“We always want to have some cause that people can donate to,” he said. “Gaza is a big one. We're Irish, and we can relate so much to what's going on in Gaza.”

“It's not controversial to be saying that it's a genocide. Because all you have to do is look into it for like five minutes,” he said.

- Family, fear, and pride at the finish line

Coyne's sister, Clodagh Stankard, flew in from Vancouver to welcome her brother.

“I think that my family were a little bit more nervous than I am,” she said. “There's always a bit of fear and a bit of nerves but I know that Johnny, anything he says, he can put his mind to it.”

For much of the trip, she anxiously awaited his messages.

“At the end of every day, we'd hope for a message from him. If there wasn't one, that's when we'd get nervous.”

Watching him arrive in Istanbul was deeply emotional.

“I could not be happier to be here today to support Johnny and the boys and to be here with my family,” she said. “I came here all the way from Vancouver, Canada and I would not have missed this moment for anything.”

Ryan's mother, Michelle, came from the Netherlands for the finish. “I was just so super proud of them,” she said, her voice trembling.

- ‘Irish people definitely speak up': Reshad Strik

Among those celebrating the team's arrival was Bosnian-Australian actor and activist Reshad Strik, who praised their mission and message.

“These guys want to do something for change,” he said, pointing to how their expedition had grown into a platform to speak on political issues.

He said the team left Ireland not just in search of adventure, but also to honor their admiration for Türkiye — citing deep historical ties between Irish and Turkish people.

“Irish people definitely speak up,” Strik added. “This is an amazing example of what can be achieved.”

“These guys traveled for seven months ... to bring two beautiful countries together and make them closer. I think it's beautiful.”

For a journey spanning Europe, Strik said, he could not imagine a more fitting destination.

“It's so iconic ... they've gone through pretty much all of Europe and now they're reaching the tip of Asia. There's no better city in the world to end this journey.

“It's a complete beautiful fairytale that they ended in what I believe is the capital city of the world.”

‘It not only enhances our culture but also contributes to the promotion of our country': Turkish Cycling Federation president highlights benefit of race for Türkiye

The 60th Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye, a major global sporting event, will not only crown a champion after eight stages in eight days, but the race will highlight Türkiye's rich cultural and natural treasures.

The event, which will begin in the southwest coast city of Antalya on April 27, will continue through Kemer, Kalkan, Fethiye, Marmaris, Akyaka, Aydin, Kusadası, Selcuk and Cesme, before finishing in Izmir on May 4.

The race in Türkiye's key tourism destinations of Antalya, Aydin and Izmir, will be broadcast live on the international sports channel Eurosport and TRT Spor.

- "This tour has become an important event globally”

Emin Muftuoglu, head of the Turkish Cycling Federation, told Anadolu that the race is also a significant event for the country's promotion. He said it started as the Marmara Tour in 1963, gained international status in 1965, and was taken under presidential authority in 1966. "Sixty years is a very valuable period, and this tour has become an important event globally," he said.

Muftuoglu pointed out that the tour, which is included in the International Cycling Union (UCI) European Tour calendar and is Türkiye's only "ProSeries" category race, will feature world-renowned professional teams and athletes.

He noted this year 23 teams will compete, with Türkiye represented by Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor, Konya Buyuksehir Belediyespor and Spor Toto teams.

Muftuoglu stated that the tour has played a significant role in spreading cycling culture in Türkiye, noting an increase in bicycle sales and race organizations reflects the effect of the event.

"Bicycles have now become a different culture in our country. Today, we are at the point where a bicycle race is organized every week. The broadcast of the Presidential Cycling Tour on television channels has made a significant contribution to this development. It not only enhances our culture but also contributes to the promotion of our country," he said.

Muftuoglu emphasized that organizing the tour before the tourism season begins is also an important strategy. "We are organizing this event before the tourism season opens so that our tourism will go further and our recognition will increase. We aim to raise Türkiye's share in tourism. This promotion is crucial for the destinations that tourists will choose at the start of the season."

- Final stop, Izmir

Muftuoglu highlighted the change of the location of the end of the race. "Izmir is very important for us, and it holds a special meaning because of its place in the War of Independence. In previous years, the tour ended in Istanbul or Antalya, but this year it will conclude in Izmir.”

“We held a coordination meeting with the Izmir governorship, mayors and provincial directors. Three stages will take place in Izmir. One of the most important uphill stages will be here, as we will climb both Sirince and Meryem Ana. We will head to Cesme and finish in Karsiyaka," he added.

The race began last year in Antalya with 25 teams and 175 athletes. It concluded in Istanbul, with Frank van den Broek of the Dsm-Firmenich PostNL winning the crown.
