Atletico Madrid eliminated city rivals Real Madrid in round 16 of the Copa del Rey or the Spanish King's Cup and advanced to quarter finals in the tournament Thursday night.

Away team Atleti snatched the 2-2 draw at Real Madrid's home ground Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and qualified for the next round since they won the first leg, 2-0, at Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Atletico Madrid's recent signing of Fernando Torres, who scored two goals in the first minutes of each half, shone throughout the match.

Defending Copa del Rey champions Real Madrid were stunned by Torres' early goal, however, they kept their hopes alive when their Spanish center-back Sergio Ramos' header went in in the 19th minute. Los Blancos or The Whites dominated the game; the first half ended 1-1.

Second half at Santiago Bernabeu started with the goal scored by Torres once again, but Real Madrid replied with their Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo in the 54th minute. In the remaining time, Los Blancos, looking for a win, could not overcome Atleti and the game ended as a 2-2 draw.

In the meantime, Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres was replaced by the team's Turkish star Arda Turan in the 58th minute.
