Mariano (2) of Galatasaray celebrates after scoring a goal with his teammates during the Turkish Super Lig soccer match between Galatasaray and Medipol Basaksehir at the Turk Telekom Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey on April 15, 2018.

Galatasaray defeated Medipol Basaksehir 2-0 on Sunday evening at Istanbul's Turk Telekom Stadium and reclaimed first spot in the league.

Some 50,000 fans cheered non-stop for the Lions, who needed to grab a win to retake the first spot at Turkey's Super Lig.

Brazilian right-back Mariano Ferreira Filho broke the deadlock at 60th minute, when he went out on attack and cut inside through the right flank and shot an outstanding curved ball, leaving goalkeeper Volkan Babacan in desperation.

Galatasaray controlled the tempo and stopped Basaksehir attacks throughout the game and was awarded with another goal in extra time when defender Serdar Aziz's header was deflected by Emmanuel Adebayor that misguided the goalkeeper.

The win gave Galatasaray the top spot with 60 points, Besiktas are at second place with 59 points, Basaksehir are now at 3rd place with 59 points, and Fenerbahce are following the top three with 57 points.
