Mexican national football team appointed Gerardo Martino as manager, the football federation announced late Monday.

The 56-year-old manager will replace Juan Carlos Osorio, who quit after the 2018 World Cup, in which the team was eliminated by Brazil in the Round of 16.

The presentation of Martino was made by Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation, and Guillermo Cantu, sports general director of the organization.

Martino and his coaching team will lead the nation to World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Before being appointed as Mexico manager, Martino was the manager of last season's champion Atlanta United in USA's Major League Soccer (MLS).
