Famous ex-football player Roberto Carlos has resigned as manager of Turkish side Sivasspor, according to club officials.

Carlos had been managing Sivasspor in Turkey’s first division, the Super League, for over a year. The team is ranked 17th in the 18-team league after 14 weeks and stands below the relegation line.

Carlos’s resignation comes after fourth-seed Istanbul Basaksehir defeated Sivasspor 2-0 at the latter’s home in Sivas.

Neither Carlos nor the club has made an official statement yet.

The Brazilian left-back -- who has a World Cup and three European Champions League Cups for his name -- had been appointed to coach the team in June 2013. Before his spell as manager in Turkey, he played for Turkish side Fenerbahce in 2007 through 2009.
