The World Motor Sport Council has included Turkey in the World Rally Championship (WRC)'s 2018 calendar.

Turkey has been included instead of Poland in the championship which is due to take place in southern Marmaris between Sept. 13, 2018, and Sept. 16, 2018.

Turkey is back in the calendar for the first time since 2010; the country was one of the tournament's destinations between 2003 and 2010 in Antalya and in Istanbul.

The tournament will be aired in 228 countries and on 132 television channels, and is expected to reach an audience of 700 million people globally.

Turkey's Automotive Sports Federation (TOSFED) welcomed the decision to include the country in the calendar.

The federation’s Chairman, Serkan Yazici, said Turkey had managed to oust seven countries to get back in the calendar.

"We managed to get past New Zealand, Croatia, Japan, Chile, Kenya and South Africa," Yazici said.

"We are very happy for our country and Turkish automotive sports."
