Deaths of storks caused by electric shock will be prevented thanks to the artificial nests to be built in northwestern Turkey, said a Turkish expert on Sunday. Mustafa Kaya, an ornithologist at Trakya University in Turkey's northwestern province of Edirne, said the stork population needs to be protected. 'There is a threat to storks in these days. The main reasons for this are; drying of wetlands, increase in use of agricultural pesticides, and increase in residential areas with technology,' he said. Underlining the importance of storks in the ecosystem, Kaya told what they are planning to protect the stork population. 'Storks make nests on electricity pylons. This situation causes a short circuit in the electricity pylons.
