Every spring, tens of thousands of writhing snakes amass in Canada. The red-sided garter snakes gathered before their annual migration in Manitoba, Canada, home to the largest concentration of snakes in the world. The area's temperatures can fall as far as about -45°C, but red-sided garter snakes are able to keep warm within limestone sinkholes that don't get as cold. Although the sinkholes are about the size of a living room, they become dens for enormous groups of the reptiles, National Geographic reports. Garter snakes are generally harmless reptiles native to the North American continent.
