The rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban has caused an exodus of large numbers of Afghans who work in state institutions, international organizations, and the media, as well as students. Hundreds of Afghans recently arrived in Albania, which is the first of the Balkan countries to grant them temporary asylum until they are directed to their final destination, the U.S., Canada, and other countries. The first convoy of Afghan immigrants arrived in Albania on August 27, and they were settled in student dormitories in the capital Tirana, and the cities of Dirac and Lech.
