Two young sisters from Afghanistan recount harrowing tales of the fearful journey they endured as they made their escape to Europe. ”The smugglers had sticks and they beat us, and wouldn't let us stop for even five minutes. We were hungry and thirsty while walking in the mountains. One day, someone on horseback got shot and fell into a ravine. Our moother told us not to be afraid but we were afraid, we couldn't help it. We cried all the time," they says."When we reached Turkey, the smugglers had guns and were shouting us. Those smugglers had small hearts. They had very small hearts, they didn't have big enough hearts to understand why we had traveled from so far away. We had no choice but to leave our country, life in Afghanistan was unbearable,” say one of the Afghan girls.“I pray that no one else has to ever come the way which made us suffer so much,” says another one. They are two of the one million refugees who have fled to Europe for safety and a new start.
