A popular revolt over fuel tax hikes and high living costs erupted on Nov. 17 and has spread quickly across France as well as other European countries. Despite government overtures, the “yellow vests” continue to demand more concessions from the government, including lower taxes, a higher minimum wage, lower energy costs, better retirement benefits and even President Emmanuel Macron's resignation.
