Electronic tag testing under way at convenience stores in Japan

Some convenience stores in Tokyo, Japan are experimenting with electronic tags to dynamically manage the quality guarantee period of goods via intelligent systems so as to reduce food waste, and also in a bid to reduce labor costs and resolve personnel shortages. According to the Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan, Japan throws away nearly 28 million tons of food waste every year, nearly 30 percent of which is thrown away near its expiration date.
