As many as 137 mosques have been vandalized across Europe in 2016, as European officials keep their silence against the increasing number of mosque attacks.

The escalating number of the attacks across the continent became a current issue following a suspicious arson fire that broke out at a planned mosque building in the city of Culemborg in central Netherlands on Wednesday.

The fire reportedly started at the center and spread to the whole building, leading to substantial damages.

Islamophobia is increasing across Europe, as more Islamaphobic discourse is seen in the media.

More than half of attacks go unpunished

According to the Islamophobia report of the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), 142 cases of verbal and physical assaults were reported last year in the Netherlands.

The report also revealed that 19 mosques in the Netherlands were attacked a total of 27 times last year.

In 2016, 54 mosques in Germany, 60 mosques in France, 21 mosques in Sweden and two mosques in Switzerland were vandalized.

However, Muslims are worried about the ongoing Islamaphobic attacks targeting the Muslims, because more than half of the total attacks went unpunished.
