The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a statement on Wednesday, urging Muslim voters across every state to register for the U.S. presidential elections slated to take place in November 2020 and participate in Friday’s National Muslim Voter Registration Day.

As part of the #MyMuslimVote campaign, the National Muslim Voter Registration Day (NSVDR) aims to encourage political participation amongst Muslims and make their voices heard at the ballot box by mobilizing tens of thousands of voters.

NSVDR is a coordinated effort of grassroots Muslim organizations across the United States to ensure as many Muslims as possible are registered to cast a ballot in the elections.

Muslim Americans make up approximately 1.1 percent of the U.S. population.

Donald Trump, 74, trails Joe Biden, 77, in opinion polls as he seeks re-election amid a pandemic that has killed more than 177,000 Americans.

Trump’s executive order, often described as a "Muslim ban," was imposed soon after he took office in January 2017 and limited visits from folks traveling to the U.S. from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, North Korea and Venezuela.

If Trump is unseated in November he will be the first single-term president since George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton in 1992.
