A Syrian family from Aleppo living in Istanbul hopes to return home once the war is over after having witnessed the horror of Assad’s massacres.

Abdulrahman Mustafa and his wife Khadijeh sought refuge in Turkey last year to escape Assad’s brutal assault on their hometown in Aleppo.

Mustafa had previously fought with the opposition and lost his left arm to a bomb fired by Assad regime soldiers.

The fate of Mustafa’s twenty-five-year old brother Mouhammad remains unknown following his arrest by Assad thugs.

The father of five recounted his story to Yeni Şafak daily at his small Yedikule home in Istanbul which the family of seven shares with Abdulrahman’s 21-year-old brother who works at a textile factory and relies on aid from the Turkish Red Crescent to make ends meet.

Three of Mustafa’s daughters go to a primary school near their house in Istanbul.

“We will return when the war is over”

After being unable to withstand the pressure Assad exerted on those who opposed him and his regime, Mustafa finally made the decision to flee the country.

“I lost my arm to a bomb a few years into the war. I didn’t want to leave my home and resisted until my children’s lives were in danger. I know that Assad’s goal is to annihilate us. God willing when the war is over, we’ll also return.”
