A cautious calm prevailed in Yemen's Aden province on Thursday, following clashes between members of a separatist group and government forces.

According to eyewitnesses, minor clashes occurred between unidentified gunmen and the guards of the Yemeni Central Bank in Qarater district on Thursday. The clashes resulted in injury of a child.

On Wednesday, at least five people were killed and 12 others injured -- including civilians -- in clashes between the UAE-backed Security Belt forces loyal to Southern Transitional Council (STC) and government forces, according to medical and military sources.

Yemen has remained wracked by violence since 2014, when Shia Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.

The conflict escalated the following year when Saudi Arabia and its Sunni-Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi gains in Yemen and supporting the country’s pro-Saudi government.
